The Department of Economics was set up in 2013 with an intake capacity of 30 and the current intake is 13 students for MA programme, affiliated to Bangalore University.

• To understanding of how markets operate, the role of supply and demand, the efficiency advantages of a market system, and the
conditions and public policies necessary for markets to operate well.
• To appreciation of the usefulness of economic models in explaining the behavior of individuals, firms and governments and in understanding the microeconomic and macroeconomic interactions among individuals, firms and governments.
The department is supported by experienced and qualified teaching faculty and technical staff committed for cause of quality education. The department organizes workshops, seminars and invites talks from experts frequently with the help of professional bodies. We have a unique practice at Department of Economics, focused on enriching the competency of our faculty members, students through workshops, FDPs, online courses and National/International Conferences. We have conducted Personality oriented and career oriented Guidelines seminar for the development of inbuilt talent of our students.
Eligibility : Candidates with 40% in aggregate in all the optional subjects and 50% of marks in the cognate subject at the Bachelor’s Degree level. Candidates with B.A., B.Sc., or B.Com Degree are eligible to apply provided they have scored 55% in the Language concerned in the degree course.
Career Scope :
Students of English Literature can get jobs with the media as reporters. It is also possible for them to get jobs with newspaper firms. Besides, they have good chances in news broadcasting firms like NDTV, CNN – IBN, Zee News, Star News Communication etc. Companies that print out Magazines as well as journals too take in students of English literature frequently. Content development and ITES firms are another areas where English post graduates can build a strong carrer. Students of English literature can also find jobs as independent literary critics, writing for print or online publications. They also have the option to start their own tuition centres for the English language.
