The department offers full time UG programme in Electronics & Communication Engineering with an intake of 120, full time PG programme in Digital Communication Engineering with an intake of 18 and has a Research Centre recognized by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi. The department has qualified and experienced faculty members with expertise in Communication Engineering, Signal Processing, VLSI & Embedded Systems, Power Electronics & Instrumentation. The ongoing research activities include the areas of Signal Processing, VLSI, Smart Antenna System, Robotics and Communication & Networking. The department facilitates well equipped laboratories strengthened by softwares like Cadence for VLSI Design, Matlab and development boards used for UG & PG students and research activities. The department facilitates industry institute interactions with industries like Sasken Technologies, Moog India, Tektronix etc through collaborations, workshops and internships.

The department has initiated student / faculty exchange programmes with Old Dominion University, Florida. To enhance the knowledge with the current trends, the department has conducted various Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) sponsored Staff Development Programmes and Workshops on DSP Algorithms & Architectures, VLSI, Sensors & Robotics during the previous years.

Eligibility : Pass in 10+2 / Higher Secondary (HS) / Pre University (PUC) / 'A' Level (with 12 years of schooling) or its equivalent with English as one of the languages. Shall have secured a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate in Physics, Mathematics and any one of the following : Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Electronics, Information Science. AIT admits students as per prevailing rules and regulations of VTU.
