Manufacturing Science and Engineering

Overview

    Manufacturing Engineering is a multi-disciplinary activity comprising mechanical properties and metallurgical characteristics of materials, process analysis, tribology, machine tools, other production equipments and processes. Manufacturing Engineering is a systematic process of converting raw materials into semi finished or finished goods. Manufacturing is considered as a backbone of any country, as a country's level of manufacturing activity is directly related to its economy. This programme encompasses many processes that enable an engineer to optimize the resources available in order to produce a quality product at the most economical cost and meet the requirements of users. Faculty members are involved in research in the field of CAD/CAM/CIM/ROBOTICS, rapid prototyping, composite materials.

  Job opportunities are plenty in the manufacturing sector in India and abroad. By undergoing this program at the under graduate level, the students will become highly knowledgeable professional engineers who are able to meet the demands of the industries and global competition.

Under Graduate

B.E. in Manufacturing Science & Engineering

Duration  : 4 Years
Eligibility : Pass in 10+2 / Higher Secondary (HS) / Pre University (PUC) / 'A' Level (with 12 years of schooling) or its equivalent with English as one of the languages. Shall have secured a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate in Physics, Mathematics and any one of the following : Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Electronics, Information Science. AIT admits students as per prevailing rules and regulations of VTU.

Program Outcomes (POs)

a. An ability to apply knowledge of science, computing, mathematics, and industrial engineering fundamentals appropriate to manufacturing engineering.

b. An ability to analyze a problem, and identify and formulate the industrial engineering principles appropriate to its solution.

c. An ability to design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based industrial engineering system or/and process to meet desired needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal and environmental considerations.

d. An ability to design and conduct experiments using IE models and IT tools , to analyze and interpret data leading to feasible solutions.

e. An ability to use current techniques, modern tools and skills necessary for manufacturing engineering practice.

f. An ability to analyze the local and global impact of industrial engineering solutions on individuals, organizations and society.

g. Develop a Knowledge of contemporary issues and solutions.

h. Develop an understanding of security, professional, ethical, legal, and social issues and responsibilities of a professional in manufacturing sector.

i. An ability to function effectively, individually and in a team, in diverse and multi- disciplinary environments to accomplish a common goal.

j. Develop an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences in all situations.

k. An understanding of engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects in a multidisciplinary environment.

l. Recognize the need for and an ability to engage in continuing professional development.
