Academic Focus
At a time when Information Science is ruling the world’s economies and have emerged as the key drivers of wealth creations, this stream of technology focuses on creating technical expertise in this sphere. With emphasis on Microprocessors, data structures, Operating Systems, Database Management, Networking including Internet programming and exposure to web commerce, etc., this branch of engineering is becoming increasingly popular.

The Department hosts 160 PIV systems to cater the needs of the students and staff. The Laboratories in the department are equipped with Hardware and Software that are compliant with industry standards in terms of technology and environment. Every laboratory has LCD projector to facilitate effective lab sessions.

The Softwares provided in the lab includes:-
• Windows – XP, Linux fedora core 3.0- Licensed Microsoft Campus Agreement Base Pack (CA) 3.4- Oracle 10G., Turbo C, Turbo C++

The systems are housed in comfortable, air-conditioned and well furnished infrastructure, these have uninterrupted power supply systems. The computers in the laboratories are networked using switches and routers and in a Wi-Fi environment with high speed Internet environment.

Curricular Activities
The department technical forum “STEIGEN’ plays key role in nurturing the students talent. The forum is active in organizing technical events like Technical talk from Industry experts, seminars, workshops, Technical quiz, Aptitude and technical tests to prepare the students for the IT industry requirements.

The department encourages academic, curricular and extra curricular activities among its students. They are encouraged to use the computer facilities for creating projects, presentations, designing of internal publicity and graphic materials. They are initiated into exploring frontiers of this technology through a strong interface with industry.

Total Number of Research Publications in various conferences are 22

Industry Interface: The department, through a tie-up with UTL Technologies imparts special programmes in Embedded systems, Real Time Operating systems, Digital Signal Processing, etc. which are the most sought after application in the IT industry, today.
