Academic Focus
The programme's objective is to provide quality education for the students in the field of mechanical engineering. According to the university-framed syllabus, the various subjects in the areas like production, design, thermal, management etc have been offered to the students. The students have the freedom of selecting the subjects of their own interest as electives in their higher semesters. The students are benefited by the experienced faculty and well established laboratories. The latest version of softwares like Ansys, Pro-E, AutoCAD, Solid works, CNC programming, CADian, Cadem etc makes the students to learn the software skills, which helps them to be globally competitive. The regular events like seminars, industrial visits, technical paper presentation contest, quiz competition, personality development activities etc organized by the department helps the students to gain additional knowledge.

Curricular Activities
A number of academic activities have been mooted by the department to get hand-on experiences in the various fields of this academic stream. With extensive interaction with industry and experienced visiting faculty, and also through industry visits they are given a holistic training that will stand them through their careers. A visit to CPRI (Central Power Research Institute) is one of the examples of such initiative.

The department is firming up a tie-up arrangement with industry and leading machine/tool design centres towards development and application of CAD softwares and CNC programming.

• An invited lecture on "Solar Energy utilization and its Applications" by Dr. Nagana Gowda,
• "AIDTC-2006". An Inter-departmental Paper Presentation Contest
• “Yantrotsav 06,07 & 08” A State Level Technical Symposium

• Regular activities to create awareness about Renewable energy sources under the banner of
“Acharya Renewable Energy Club.

Research Initiatives
The Department has been approved as a Research Centre under Visvesvaraya Technological University. The teaching faculty are engaged in research work in the fields of composite materials, technology management, I.C. Engines and renewable energy sources.
