The Cultural Committee of Acharya Institute of Graduate Studies headed by Mr. H.K.S. Swamy, Convener, had organized a cultural event called Face Painting on 25 Feb. 2009 on the theme “Deforestation”. The students had to paint the face of their ‘subject’ and later explain to the audience what their exhibit reflected. The response of the students was encouraging and the enthusiasm showed was inspiring for the Cultural Committee.

The judgment was based on the completeness of the painting and the explanation by the artist. The theme had been explored at various levels and the creativity of the students was distinctly obvious on each face. The artists had put in hard efforts to explore the theme to the maximum and yet retain the beauty of their work. The patience of the ‘subjects’ was appreciable. They extended complete cooperation to the artists and sat unmoved for two hours from 1pm to 3pm. The artists later expressed their gratitude to the ‘subjects’ and observed that their work was possible only because of their patience.

The students short listed had worked on the theme through various perspectives.
I PRIZE: Ms. Prabha Swathi of II BSc (FAD) was creative as well as scientific in her exploration of the theme. Her painting artistically showed the initial stages of germination leading to the fall of leaves and soil erosion caused by polluted rivers.

II PRIZE: Ms. Aparajitha Kayal of VI Sem. BA had explored the theme beautifully with depiction of God created nature on one check of her ‘subject’ and the disastrous consequences of deforestation on the other cheek by showing nature shedding tears.

III PRIZE: Mr. James of II BSc (FAD) had used black and white colors effectively to symbolize the ignorance of man through black color and his delayed awareness through white color.
