About Program

As part of the academic curriculum for Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology students are required to undergo practical exposure to real-world clinical and diagnostic laboratory settings. In line with this objective, an educational hospital visit was organized to Sakra World Hospital, a multi-specialty tertiary care hospital known for its advanced diagnostic facilities, state-of-the-art laboratory infrastructure, and adherence to international quality standards (such as NABL/NABH accreditation).

The purpose of this visit was to provide students with hands-on exposure to the functioning of a modern hospital laboratory, bridging the gap between theoretical classroom knowledge and practical, industry-based application. Students were given the opportunity to observe various departments of the hospital laboratory, including Clinical Biochemistry, Microbiology, Hematology, Histopathology, Blood Banking, and Molecular Diagnostics, along with an understanding of sample collection, processing, quality control protocols, biomedical waste management, and the use of automated diagnostic equipment.

This visit aimed to enhance students' understanding of laboratory workflow, hospital hygiene and safety standards, interdepartmental coordination, and the role of a Medical Laboratory Technologist in patient care and diagnosis — thereby strengthening their professional and technical competencies in preparation for future clinical practice.

Objectives of the Program

  • To observe and understand the real-time workflow of a hospital-based clinical laboratory, from sample collection to report generation.
  • To gain practical exposure to automated diagnostic equipment used in Biochemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and other lab sections.
  • To understand quality control practices, accreditation standards (NABL/NABH), and biosafety protocols followed in a hospital setting.
  • To learn about the role and responsibilities of a Medical Laboratory Technologist in patient diagnosis and hospital care.
