About the Program

This program provides a basic understanding of municipal wastewater treatment, covering the process from collection to disposal or reuse. It offers practical exposure to treatment units and biological processes while emphasizing the importance of sewage treatment for environmental protection and public health. The program helps connect theoretical knowledge with real-world wastewater engineering practices.

Objectives of the Program

  • To understand the overall treatment process involved in municipal wastewater treatment from collection to final disposal or reuse.
  • To gain practical knowledge of treatment units and biological treatment processes like activated sludge process, aeration mechanisms, and sludge recycling.
  • To understand environmental and public health importance of sewage treatment in preventing water pollution.
  • To bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application of wastewater engineering concepts.

Expected Outcomes of the Program

  • Students will be able to explain the complete municipal wastewater treatment process from sewage collection to treated effluent disposal or reuse.
  • Students will be able to identify and describe the function and working of various treatment units and activated sludge process, aeration methods, and sludge recycling mechanisms.
  • Students will be able to recognize the role of sewage treatment in protecting environmental quality and public health by preventing water pollution.
  • Students will be able to correlate theoretical concepts of wastewater engineering with real- time plant operations and practical field applications.
