Neurodevelopmental Therapy (NDT) in Managing Stroke-related Hemiplegia
About the Program
This introductory workshop offers PTs an intensive, hands-on deep dive into the NDT Enablement Model for treating adults with Stroke and Acquired Brain Injury. The program emphasizes movement and task analysis through the lens of the ICF model, teaching participants to distinguish between typical kinesiology and the atypical patterns that hinder recovery. Through case studies and intensive lab sessions, attendees will master treatment strategies for the scapula, rib cage, shoulder girdle, trunk, and gait, ultimately gaining the clinical reasoning skills to synthesize complex neurological data into functional, goal-oriented intervention plans.
Objectives of the Program
- Analyze and differentiate between typical and atypical movement patterns and kinesiology.
- Identify specific atypical patterns and postural misalignments that interfere with daily function.
- Recognize the most significant neuromuscular impairments blocking a patient's recovery.
- Synthesize clinical information to develop tailored intervention strategies for neurological dysfunction.
- Formulate clear treatment goals and hands-on strategies for patients with stroke and brain injuries.
Expected Outcomes of the Program
- Master the ability to distinguish between normal and atypical movement to pinpoint exactly why a patient is struggling with daily tasks.
- Learn to prioritize the most critical physical barriers to recovery, ensuring treatment time is spent on what matters most.
- Acquire practical, hands-on skills for facilitating better movement in the trunk, shoulders, and legs during walking.
- Develop the confidence to create and execute effective, evidence-based therapy plans that lead to measurable functional improvements.
