About the Program

The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is observed annually to raise awareness about the struggles of people living in poverty and to call for collective action to eliminate inequalities. The 2025 observance at Keragundahalli Community Area will centre around the theme “Ending Social and Institutional Maltreatment by Ensuring Respect and Effective Support for Families.”

The program, HASTHA (Helping Hands)-2025, will focus on addressing issues of social discrimination, institutional neglect, and lack of access to essential services that perpetuate poverty. Using social drama as a powerful medium, community members, students, and volunteers will enact real-life situations to highlight the challenges of poverty—such as unemployment, child labour, gender inequality, poor healthcare, and educational deprivation—while also showcasing possible solutions. This participatory approach not only spreads awareness but also empowers the community to reflect, discuss, and take collective responsibility in overcoming poverty-related issues.

Meeting Objectives

  • To raise awareness about the root causes of poverty and its impact on families in the community.
  • To highlight the importance of respect, dignity, and institutional support for marginalized groups.
  • To use social drama as an effective tool for educating people about available social welfare schemes and support systems.
  • To encourage dialogue and reflection within the community on strategies to reduce poverty.
  • To inspire community members to become active participants in poverty alleviation efforts.

Expected Outcomes

  • Increased awareness among community members about poverty-related challenges and rights-based solutions.
  • Improved understanding of social welfare programs, government schemes, and support networks.
