About the Program

The Seminar on National Eye Donation Fortnight – 2025 is organized to create awareness about the importance of eye donation and to encourage individuals to pledge their eyes for a noble cause. Observed across the nation, this initiative aims to eliminate corneal blindness and restore vision to millions in need.

Objectives of the Program

  • To create awareness among the general public about the importance of eye donation and corneal transplantation.
  • To motivate people to pledge their eyes for donation after death.
  • To educate communities and clear misconceptions, fears, and cultural barriers related to eye donation.
  • To emphasize the prevalence of corneal blindness and the urgent requirement of corneal tissues.
  • To promote the establishment and strengthening of eye banks and eye collection centers across the country.
  • To involve NGOs, healthcare institutions, media, students, and local organizations in spreading awareness.
  • To educate families about the importance of giving consent at the time of death.
  • To contribute toward the national goal of eliminating avoidable blindness by making more corneas available for transplantation.

Expected Outcome of the Program

  • Understand the prevalence and causes of corneal blindness in India.
  • Gain knowledge of the process of eye donation, from pledging to corneal transplantation.
  • Learn about the role of eye banks and healthcare providers in promoting donation.
  • Develop the ability to educate others and spread awareness about eye donation.
  • Practice effective communication strategies to address myths, fears, and cultural barriers.
  • Gain skills in organizing community participation activities such as rallies, seminars, and poster campaigns.
  • Cultivate a sense of social responsibility and empathy towards visually impaired individuals.
