About the Program

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an emerging global health challenge that threatens the effective prevention and treatment of a growing range of infections. Often referred to as a “masked crisis,” AMR is progressing silently, undermining decades of medical advancements. This seminar aims to shed light on the causes, consequences, and urgent need for action against AMR. Participants will gain insights into the misuse of antibiotics, the rise of resistant microbes, and the critical importance of stewardship in healthcare and community settings. The program is designed to educate, engage, and empower individuals to contribute to combating this pressing public health issue.

Objectives of the Program

  • Understand the historical development and significance of antibiotics in modern medicine.
  • Identify the causes and consequences of antibiotic resistance.
  • Analyse the global impact of antibiotic misuse and overuse in human and veterinary medicine.
  • Explore strategies to mitigate antibiotic resistance at individual, community.
  • Recognize the role of healthcare professionals, governments, and the public in addressing the antibiotic crisis.

Expected Outcome of the Program

  • Explain the mechanism of action of antibiotics and how resistance develops.
  • Describe how inappropriate use of antibiotics contributes to resistance.
  • Evaluate the public health risks associated with antibiotic resistance.
  • Discuss global and local initiatives aimed at controlling antibiotic resistance.
