About the Student Induction Programme

The Transforming End of Life Care Through Empathy and Evidence program focuses on enhancing the quality of palliative and end-of-life care through compassionate communication and evidence-based practices. It aims to equip healthcare professionals and students with the knowledge, sensitivity, and skills needed to provide holistic support to patients and families. The program emphasizes empathy, dignity, and comfort, ensuring care that respects both emotional and clinical needs at life’s final stages.

Objectives of the Program

  • To enable learners to comprehend the holistic approach of palliative care, focusing on quality of life, dignity, and comfort for patients with life-limiting illnesses.
  • To develop the ability to assess and address the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of patients and their families.
  • To equip learners with knowledge and skills to effectively manage pain and other distressing symptoms using pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods.
  • To train participants in empathetic and culturally sensitive communication with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
  • To familiarize learners with ethical dilemmas, patients’ rights, and legal issues involved in end-of-life care.

Expected Outcome of the Program

After the induction program, students will be able to:
  • Explain the philosophy, principles, and scope of palliative care and its importance in improving quality of life for patients with life-limiting illnesses.
  • Identify and assess the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of patients and their families requiring palliative care.
  • Demonstrate effective pain and symptom management skills using appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Apply ethical and legal principles in decision-making and care provision for terminally ill patients.
  • Communicate empathetically and sensitively with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team in palliative and end-of-life care situations.
