About the Program

International Hand Hygiene Day, observed annually on May 5th, is a global initiative spearheaded by the World Health Organization (WHO) under its “SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands” campaign. This day aims to promote the importance of hand hygiene in health care and everyday life as a simple yet highly effective way to prevent infections and save lives. At Smt.Nagarathnamma College of nursing, we recognize the critical role hand hygiene plays in infection prevention and control (IPC). Our Hand Hygiene Day Program is organized to raise awareness, reinforce best practices, and engage healthcare professionals, students, and the public in meaningful actions that promote a culture of safety and cleanliness.

Objectives of the Program

  • To educate participants on the WHO’s “5 Moments for Hand Hygiene”.
  • To demonstrate correct hand washing techniques using soap and alcohol-based hand rubs.
  • To encourage commitment to hand hygiene practices among healthcare providers and students.
  • To reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) through improved IPC measures.
