World Literacy Day is observed to highlight the importance of literacy as a fundamental right and a powerful tool for personal, social and economic development. The programme aims to create awareness among students and the community about the importance of education, reading, writing, digital literacy and lifelong learning.

The programme will encourage participants to understand that literacy extends beyond the ability to read and write. It also includes health literacy, digital literacy, financial literacy and the ability to access and use information effectively. As nursing students, participants will also be encouraged to recognize the role of literacy in improving health awareness and healthcare-seeking behaviour.
