About the Program

Objectives of the Program

  • Increase public understanding of glaucoma as a leading cause of irreversible blindness.
  • Emphasize that glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight” because it progresses without early symptoms.
  • Encourage routine comprehensive eye examinations, especially for high-risk groups (age 40+, family history, diabetes, high eye pressure).
  • Inform communities about risk factors and the importance of timely treatment.
  • Promote healthy eye care practices.

Expected Outcomes of the Program

  • Recognize that most forms (e.g., open-angle glaucoma) have no early symptoms.
  • Differentiate between open-angle and angle-closure glaucoma.
  • Advocate for regular eye check-ups.
  • Support awareness campaigns in their community.
  • Counsel patients effectively about treatment adherence and follow-up care.
