About the Program
Objectives of the Program
- Increase public understanding of glaucoma as a leading cause of irreversible blindness.
- Emphasize that glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight” because it progresses without early symptoms.
- Encourage routine comprehensive eye examinations, especially for high-risk groups (age 40+, family history, diabetes, high eye pressure).
- Inform communities about risk factors and the importance of timely treatment.
- Promote healthy eye care practices.
Expected Outcomes of the Program
- Recognize that most forms (e.g., open-angle glaucoma) have no early symptoms.
- Differentiate between open-angle and angle-closure glaucoma.
- Advocate for regular eye check-ups.
- Support awareness campaigns in their community.
- Counsel patients effectively about treatment adherence and follow-up care.
